COMEX gold futures, per the April contract, settled higher by $8.10, or 0.6%, at $1,404.20 per ounce on Thursday.
The modest rally in gold futures coincided with a 0.9% drop in the U.S. Dollar Index to 76.295. This morning the dollar hit an intra-day low of 76.15, its lowest level since November 2010.
Crude oil futures posted substantial gains, as the March contract rallied $3.44, or 3.5%, to $101.42 per barrel. Oil futures reached an intra-day high of $101.99 earlier this afternoon. Black gold’s rise came as tensions continued to flare up between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
