Gold and silver shares posted modest losses on Friday in late morning trading, as the Philadelphia Gold & Silver Index (XAU) fell 0.7% to 207.47. The slide in gold and silver equities was accompanied by mixed action in precious metals, as gold bullion dropped $7.48 to $1,347.06 and silver rose $0.04 to $28.77 per ounce. Notable decliners in the sector included XAU components AngloGold Ashanti (AU), Kinross Gold (KGC), and Pan American Silver (PAAS). AU, KGC, and PAAS retreated 1.2%, 1.2%, and 1.1%, respectively. Despite this morning’s loss, the XAU remains higher by 3.8% this week.
