Silver has diverged from gold in late morning trading, climbing $0.17, or 0.6%, to $28.09 per ounce. Meanwhile, the yellow metal has remained lower by 0.7% near $1,330 per ounce.
Shares of gold and silver companies are mixed, with the Philadelphia Gold & Silver Index (XAU) dipping 0.2% to 199.36. Notable decliners included Kinross Gold (KGC) and Pan American Silver (PAAS), with losses of 1.8% and 0.6%, respectively.
Eldorado Gold (EGO), which announced a dividend of C$0.05 per share, slid 1.8% to $16.11 this morning.
